A Camera Crusade Through the Holy Land by Dwight L. Elmendorf, London, 1912 - First Edition. A book with 100 plates of Eretz Israel photographs following a journey made by the author to the Holy Land in 1901. Each photograph over an entire page - printed on thick and fine paper.

The photographs were all taken by the author on a journey through Eretz Israel on horseback. Landscape photographs, people, farmers, daily crafts, and important sites in the Land of Israel from north to south, which the author visited. (Among other, there is a rare photograph of the snow-capped Mount Hermon - one of the earliest known photographs of Mount Hermon, important photographs of Old Jerusalem - the Western Wall, the Temple Mount and the surrounding area, and more). On the corresponding page next to each photograph is a verse from the Bible that refers to the photographed landscape. The first part of the book describes the Land of Israel in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. On the first page is a map showing the author's journey from north to south.

XIV, 56, p. [100] leaf. Original cover with gilt stamping. Gilt leaf cutting. Good condition.
