A photograph of a Jewish family from Bulgaria during the Holocaust. A yellow badge - a button, can be seen on the shirts of the photographed. Bulgaria, early 1940s.

Despite widespread opposition in Bulgaria to anti-Jewish legislation, on August 26, 1942, the Bulgarian government issued an order instructing Jews to wear an identification mark. Unlike cloth patches, Bulgarian Jews were marked with a small plastic button in the shape of a yellow Star of David. However, due to local opposition and church opposition, the order was not fully enforced and only about one-fifth of Bulgarian Jews wore the badge. The identity of the photographed not clear to us.

Size: 9x14 cm. Good condition.
