As regent, Edward held the title "Prince of Wales", a title he carried for nearly 60 years. He was known as "the uncle of Europe", as he had blood ties with almost all the other monarchs in Europe. Edward was considered the epitome of the fashionable and hedonistic aristocracy. He was responsible for cultivating relations between Britain and the rest of Europe, and especially with France, which is why he was called a "peacemaker."
