A rare photograph of the Admor Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum of Satmar comes out and greets Carol II, King of Romania, with a handshake in Satu Mara - 1936. below written: "Photo of our Lord King Carol II with the Tzadik Rabbi Yoel Shlit'a Av Beit Din of Satmar".

In 1936, about two years after he inherited the kingdom, King Carol came with a large parade to the city of Satmar. Towards his arrival, the town prepared a large stage on which all the dignitaries of the city stood. The heads of all religions stood on the podium, Jews alongside the heads of other religions. The Admor Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum [1887-1979 - Founder of the Satmar Chassidut] who was the rabbi of the city at the time arrived accompanied by his son-in-law Rabbi from Samhali and Rosh HaKahal - Rabbi Shmuel Rosenberg. The king arrived accompanied by thousands of soldiers and royalty. As he approached the stage, the king looked at all his receptionists, and from all of them he chose to approach the Rebbe Rabbi Yoelish. At the same time, two razors from the king's nation began to walk towards the king, but he ignored them, And immediately approached the rabbi of Satmar, holding in his one hand his rabbinical stick and in the other his hat. The Rebbe bowed and said the blessing "witch gave his honor to human being" and the king reached out to the rabbi. The historical photo was documented by a Jewish photographer, and it was immediately published in the Romanian press. A few days later the king was asked why he first approached Rebbe of Satmar, and replied: "As soon as I came towards the stage, I scanned all the extras with their high rank, and then I noticed 'Jewish Spiritual Rabbi' my heart was drawn to him thanks to his form that radiated spirituality." The stunning deed and the king's response were published in the Jewish press in the country.

Provenance: A Jerusalem family whose Rebbe from Satmar arranged the wedding canopy for their grandmother, and the photograph was received by the family then.
