Yellow badge of a Jew from the Holocaust period, made of fabric - Star of David with the inscription "Juif" - France, early 1940s.

On June 7, 1942, the Jews in the areas of France occupied by the Germans were ordered to wear an identification mark. The badge - a yellow Star of David with the word "Juif" ("Jew" in French) in the center - Jews over the age of six were ordered to sew into their clothing on the left side of the chest so that it would stand out in a public place. Jews who forgot the sign when they went out on the street, or whose sign did not match the instructions, were officially liable to fines and imprisonment, and extrajudicial execution by immediate firing.
