Alexander Bogen (Katzenbogen) (1916-2010) began painting and sculpture studies at the Academy of Art, where he also graduated and continued his studies at the Paris National High School of Fine Arts (Beauzaar). At the beginning of World War II, he joined the United Partisan Organization (FAO) in Vilna ghetto. On July 29, 1943, he fled to the Naroch Forest in Belarus, about 200 km from Vilna, and commanded a unit of about 30 Jewish partisans. Bogen smuggled Jews from the ghetto into the forests, trained them to fight, and led them against the Germans. During this time he painted his experiences, Some of these works are included in the collections of the Ghetto Fighters Museum, the Yad Vashem Museum and the Holocaust Museum in Washington. In 1951, he immigrated to Israel and established the art department at the WIZO France School. He served as chairman of the Israel Painters and Sculptors Association in 1969-1981.
