Theresienstadt post Bauschowitz - An official form sent to recipients outside of Prague with a Theresienstadt stamp, intended for sending envelopes into the ghetto. On the left is the name of the sender Freund Julie and his address, on the right is the name of the recipient Kotter Theodor. On the form is affixed a Theresienstadt stamp which was intended for the recipient, with which he would send letter envelopes into the ghetto with the ghetto stamp that was officially approved for receiving letters within the ghetto.
On July 10, 1943, the authorities in Bohemia and Moravia began issuing this stamp for use on packages sent to the Theresienstadt concentration camp. If a ghetto resident wanted to receive a package, he had to fill out an application every two months. The request was forwarded to the Jewish Council in Prague, who sent a message to the designated sender of the package containing the postage stamp and instructions. Upon receiving the package, the prisoner sent back a printed card confirming receipt of the package.
Below is the text in two languages, German and Czech, column by column: "Enclosed, we are sending you one registration stamp for sending a package to Theresienstadt for the above-mentioned person. This stamp should be affixed to the postal package. Packages to Theresienstadt that do not have a stamp will not go through the post office, you must sign the acknowledgment of receipt of the attached stamp and send it, the Council of Jewish Elders in Prague".
These pages are considered extremely rare, and in particular when the stamp was not used, since the recipient of the page with the stamp, stuck the stamp on the envelope intended to be sent to the ghetto, and threw the page into the trash. Another type of similar forms are known which were sent to the addressee to come and collect the Theresienstadt stamp from the local post office.
