In a letter dated January 20, 1948, Chava writes to her friend Tzipora: "It's hard to describe everything that is happening here with us... outside we hear the sounds of gunshots and bombs... our street... is now deserted and you don't see a living soul, and if you want to cross the road you have to run. ..".
One of the letters describes the disaster that occurred in Jerusalem during the battles of the War of Independence: "We are going through a very difficult life, especially affected by the disaster on Ben Yehuda Street. The heart is stressed and crushed. Who could have imagined that such a disaster would happen in the heart of the Hebrew city... We live in hope and faith that the counsel of the wicked will not arise and we will have the privilege of seeing our enemy fall and our Hebrew state rise and rise and the people of Israel will soon be redeemed in our days... It is everyone's duty to help in the defense of the homeland and its establishment and I have also been assigned a role, several times a week I work in the recruitment office... When the concert of gunfire is silent you can still read a little or write ...".
A letter dated June 15, 1948, from Bracha to Tzipora: "Your last letter to us was dated May 18, 3 days after the declaration of the state... As you know, with us there is a truce, or rather a truce... Even in the most difficult days, our people knew how to find the way to Jerusalem . And while fierce battles were taking place in Latrun, our people stood and paved a way... This is also one of the glory affairs of our history. The man who will tell the stories of our heroism will yet arise, and since then our existence as a state has only passed one month...".
A letter dated April 5, 1948 from Bracha to Tzipora: "This week a great disaster happened and 42 people fell in the battle to secure the road in the Western Galilee. The convoy was on its way from Nahariya to Yehiam, bringing with it food and fuel to the point, but they were surrounded by a large crowd from the Arab villages surrounding the place and the platoon could not hold Status... This week they hit the ruins of Rabbi Yehuda Hasid in the Old City with shells and shots aimed at the synagogue...".
In another letter from the 4th of Adar 1948, from Bracha to Tzipora: "Now I will talk about the situation in the country... Here people are killed and injured, and here a house is destroyed and so on... We can be proud that the army is coming against us in such enormous force with so many weapons, Everything is against us, and this proves our strength, which the others also appreciate... Life here in Israel affects every person in such a way that every person is interested in weapons of their own kind...", and more.
