The British flag made of paper and attached to a wooden handle - Rare relic from the celebrations of the invasion of Normandy (Operation Overlord) and the beginning of the liberation of France - June 1944.

The flag bears the handwriting: Victory flag Normandy Liberation" dated June 30, 1944.
The Allies invaded Normandy in occupied France, in an offensive that took place from June 6, 1944 until June 30, 1944 (D-Day) on the Western Front of World War II. On the first day of the invasion, some 156,000 Allied troops landed from sea and air in Normandy, assisted by some 12,000 aircraft and 6,939 vessels. It was the largest naval landing operation in history. The invasion of Normandy marked the beginning of a second front in the war against Germany, and the beginning of the end of Nazi Germany.
Paper flags were locally produced on the occasion of Normandy's Liberation Day and distributed to citizens who greeted the victorious Allies in the streets bustling with joy.
Provenance: We received the flag from a resident of Jerusalem whose flag has been kept in her family since the war!

Flag: 20x13 cm. Rod: 24 cm. (broken at the bottom). A partially torn fold mark on the right side of the flag. Good Condition.
