The crowned eagle is a symbol of Polish, Austrian, German, and Russian rule. These eagles appear a lot on objects of Jewish art intended for both home and synagogue. The eagle symbol that appears between the decorations or separately as a gesture of gratitude, or as proof of loyalty to the government. In the synagogues in these areas it was customary to place this lamp next to the ark.
