A program for the film "Lights of the City" in which Charlie Chaplin captured a central role as a screenwriter, director, producer and lead actor, and even composed some of the original music. Germany 1931.
City Lights is a 1931 romantic comedy film depicting a relationship between Chaplin's hobo character and a blind flower vendor. It was Chaplin's second film after the film was invented. It contained music that the pianist could not play, because it included original tunes and was not in his repertoire, and because it was written for different musical instruments. The crew filmed 116 days in a row, while Chaplin pondered the best way to present the bum as a millionaire to the girl heroine of the film. In the end, the ingenious trick was found: the tramp trying to cross the street, casually walking through the door of a fancy car to her other door, slamming it and then facing the girl, convinced she see a rich man get out of his car. Over the years, the film has become a classic of early films, and has been screened countless times all over the world.
Charles Spencer Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977) A comic actor, film director and English composer, who has been a great success in the silent film era. Chaplin became a symbol, partly because of the image of the "tramp" he played in his films. One of the most influential figures in the history of the film industry. Chaplin was involved in all the production processes of his films, from writing the script, through directing to selecting the soundtrack and music. With career that lasted more than 75 years. [4] p.
