Esther Luria - Sketches: Women in a Labor Camp - a copy with dedication of the author. "To David Tevanzinik in honor, Esther Luria, Tel Aviv 11/19/68". Published by Y. L. Peretz. 1962.

A booklet with 15 drawings of figures of female prisoners in Hell - in the Leibisch labor camp near Torun (A Stutthof subcamp where the women were transferred to towards the end of the war), which Esther Luria drew in the winter of 1944: "
Of course I had to be careful of the eyes of the Nazi guards, lest they catch me in my work... I only managed to prepare a small number of sketches, despite my strong desire to put down on paper everything that I saw. " Esther drew them using ink and a wooden toothpick with which used in the camp as part of her work to tighten the numbers of the Women prisoners on the cloth charts. She hid them in her clothes during her five months stay in the camp. Esther brought the paintings with her to Italy on her way to Eretz Israel after the war, and already there she published them in the booklet "Jewish women in Slavery" in May 1945, published by the Hebrew Soldier's Club in Rome. Esther created the figures in the style of the Flemish artists which she learned during her training in Brussels and Antwerp. "Their images depict the suffering of Jewish women, whose hard work and poverty did not disfigure their faces, did not blur their Jewish grace. Their feminine delicacy, illuminated by the light of the artist's love, their sister to trouble and suffering, stands out even through their rough, worn and clumsy clothing" (from the introduction by Aryeh Lerner).

A trilingual edition in Hebrew, Yiddish and English, accompanied by the words by the painter Esther Luria herself, Aryeh Lerner and Haim Gamzo. Very good condition.
