Les enfants du ghetto - Children of the Ghetto, by Israel Zangwill - a special French edition published in 1925 in only 565 copies printed on thick paper - this copy is numbered 561. All pages of the book are surrounded by a nice blue frame. Dozens of black-and-white lithographs by Alice Halicka, a Jewish artist from the Paris School (born in Krakow in 1889) who came to France in 1912.

In the book that first published in 1892, Zangwill describes the difficult life of a family from Eastern Europe who came to the East end of London, and lived in a very poor market inhabited by new Jewish immigrants. The book's lithographs depicting Jewish family scenes and Jewish customs typical of Eastern European Jewry were inspired by the artist's stay in Poland, and in particular in Kazimierz, the Jewish quarter of Krakow, in 1923.
