In the book, 150 wood engravings, and 7 high quality color plates depicting the Land of Israel and its cities. When the book was published, it was considered by many to be the most accurate and reliable summary published in the 19th century about palestine and its cities, and it was based on sigts painted on the places themselves, and did not rely on other sources. The first print of the book ran out quickly, and in 1893 a second edition was printed.
