Our Land and Country: Life and History, Treasures and Splendors, From Plymouth Rock to the Golden Gate. A Panorama of 400 Years' American Progress, 1492-1892 - A special photo album published to mark the 400th anniversary of the American continent since its discovery by Christopher Columbus. Published by Springfield, Mass. The C.A. Nichols Co. The Rockwell & Churchill Press, 1892 - First edition.

The album contains hundreds of large photographs spanning entire pages, documenting the American continent from every possible angle, starting from its discovery by Columbus. The album features landscapes, sites, important public buildings, rare views of cities and streets, scenes of discoveries and people, industrial development on land and at sea - various factories, steamships, and railways, natural landscapes, and monuments, as well as the human achievements ever recorded in American history. The album before us, which essentially documents 400 years, is the first of its kind to be published in America. Never before had there been a photo album in such detail and quality in America, as the publisher elaborates in the introduction. The album was published as part of a major exhibition held in Chicago, dealing with American history on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the world's greatest power.

627 p. 28x23 cm. Original binding with gilt lettering on the front and spine. Slight tears in the corners of the binding. The front cover is partially detached. Overall good condition.
