A rare photograph consisting of eleven small photographs of the soccer teams - the Irgun and Lehi exiles in the detention camps in Eritrea.

On the back of the photograph handwritten: 'Prisoners of Zion and the Exiles of Judea in Eritrea, Adar II 1946'.

Some members of the Irgun and Lehi underground movements were arrested and deported at the end of the British Mandate period, from 1944 to 1948, in 12 transports to detention camps in Africa. The detention camps in which they were held were Sembel, near Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, Carthage in the desert of Sudan and Gilgil, Kenya. Before us a rare photomontage work from the camp that brings together the various soccer teams that have emerged from the exiles in the detention camp in Eritrea. The various groups were divided according to the countries of origin of the deportees: 'Haifa Group', 'Tel Aviv Group', etc. The victory cup they competed for was called the 'Gallows Cup' and was donated by the exiles of Petach Tikva in memory of their comrades who went to the gallows in Acre prison. The exiles were returned to israel two months after the establishment of the State of Israel, in July 1948.

12x9 cm. Very good condition.
