Protection certificate from the French Embassy in Budapest for a woman confirming that she is Catholic, and that she is not Jewish. The letter was intended to be presented at the borders and crossings so that the true identity of the woman with the permit, who is Jewish, would not be revealed, and allow her to escape from the watchful eye of the Nazis. Hundreds of Jews' lives were saved through these types of permits. Budapest, 1944. Hungarian. An extremely rare document.
The letter reads: "Certificate. The French Embassy in Budapest hereby confirms that Mazet Josephine Urno, born in France in 1883, is a Hungarian Catholic, and she is not Jewish", below, is the signature of the Consul in charge of the Chancellor, and a rare ink stamp of the French Embassy in Budapest. According to the deep fold marks and the glue, it is very clear that the letter was shown in the inspection checks dozens of times, in which she was asked to show the certificate because it was suspected that she might be Jewish, as indeed she was.
31x22 cm. Fold marks. And glue marks. Good condition.
