LA INSURRECCION PARISINA 19 De agosto - 26 de agosto 1944 - The Parisian Insurrection August 19 - August 26, 1944 - A rare documentation of the civilian population's role in liberating Paris from the Nazi occupation - the battles waged by the civilian population during July-August 1944, step by step from a citizen - fighter who directly participated in the liberation events. Introduction by Jacques Duclos, Secretary of the P. C. F. Spanish. [Paris, 1944].

Booklet documenting the struggle and heroic battles waged by the civilian population in the month in which Paris was liberated on all fronts step by step. The author describes how the combination of forces between all parts of the civilian population ultimately led to the surrender of the German occupiers. He details the activities of the popular movements that prepared the ground for the uprising - the mass demonstrations in July 1944 under the auspices of the armed F.T.P. which led to the withdrawal of German forces, the role of railway workers in the general strike declared on July 27, rapid arms supply to the population from resistance organizations, organization of housewives' committees from the French Women's Association for demonstrations in markets and around city halls, joining factory workers to demonstrations held in July which brought over 60,000 people to the streets. The booklet also provides a detailed description of protest centers in various locations and activities of demonstrators and their leaders, mass organization and distribution of resistance pamphlets to boost demonstrators' morale, crowd organization for battles in various streets, actions carried out by the Paris Liberation Committee on August 18 with a call to all men and women to seize control of public buildings, stations, telegraph and telephone hubs, power plants, Paris City Hall, and removal of representatives of the Vichy regime forces, live documentation of street warfare between the crowd armed with weapons and German soldiers and disabling of German tanks. It also extensively reports on the large battle conducted on August 22 as Allied forces approached, when "An entire city hurls itself into battle... The city rises up, the cobblestones of the streets, cars, houses, everything becomes a weapon". The author describes the Germans' surrender on August 25 in many parts of the city, until its final liberation and their ultimate surrender.

The booklet includes various photographs from the front pages of the French newspaper L'Humanité which accompanied the daily struggle for Paris' liberation step by step in publications. The booklets's author is anonymous, but from the extensive details of various scenarios it is evident the matters were written by someone who personally witnessed the events they documented in proximity to their occurrence. The title cover features an illustration of a French citizen-fighter with a weapon against the backdrop of Paris buildings and a street defense position.
