Immediately after the war, the Jewish Agency's relatives search began to published on every possible stage, especially in the daily press, the names of surviving Jews who were known to have survived the war, in order to allow their relatives to locate them. The press releases were partial and appeared in an unorganized manner, and naturally they did not have the power to cross the borders of countries. For this reason, and for other reasons, the Jewish Agency decided to gather in one place all the information it had about the survivors. This was done 'while on the move' and as stated in the introduction to Part I: "The list of names in this volume was compiled in circumstances that do not help to carefully register and check the details ... And because of the difficulties that still exist in the postal relations, which have just been renewed after being cut off during the war ... and also because of frequent changes of place of the survivors' themselves ... ". However, the agency was able to compile a huge number of survivors' names, which constitute a first-class historical document, especially when it was published, a few months after the war. And more than once, one can hear in the testimonies of survivors that they have found their dear relatives through the 'Survivors' Register'. Part B, which includes Polish survivors, is based on lists held by the Central Committee of Polish Jews in Warsaw, on August 18, 1945, And is rare in itself.
The names of the survivors are in foreign letters, and next to each survivor's name is written his origin and age.
