A first-hand account of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising by the last surviving leader, Mark Edelman, was published immediately after the war - Mark Edelman [1919-2009], a member of the "Bund" movement, was one of the leaders of the "Fighting Jewish Organization" in the Warsaw Ghetto, Mordechai Anilevich's deputy . Assisted in the organization of guerrilla soldiers among its relatively unprepared residents, as well as in the secret transportation of weapons that were used to fight against the Nazis at the outbreak of the rebellion. After the death of all the other leaders of the rebellion, Edelman became the only commander left alive. Edelman managed to escape the eyes of the German soldiers through the sewers under the ghetto and joined the resistance in the Warsaw Uprising. In his book, which was published by the "Bund" shortly after the war, Edelman describes the events of the ghetto and especially the disbelief of the Jewish population in the possibility that the Germans were going to exterminate them.
