The author, John Kitto [1804-1854] one of the greatest biblical scholars of the 19th century. At the age of 12 he fell off a roof and became permanently deaf. besides, he suffered from other disabilities. His limitations did not stop his curiosity, and he was soon found to have exceptional mental abilities despite his physical impairments. Kitto began his travels to the East in 1829, and when he returned to London he began writing the diaries of his journey in Penny magazine, which was then distributed among about a million people in Britain. And later published his research in many books. His research has compared the lifestyles of Orientals at the time with the lifestyles described in the Bible. He has studied in detail the topography, animals, architecture, agricultural methods, as well as the way people interact. In his book he shows how Oriental culture is exactly the same as described In the Bible, and establishes its sources. His meticulous research on the geography, biology and archeology of the biblical lands caused to his generation to trust the accuracy of the Bible. Kitto was a symbol of a man with disabilities who managed to overcome and break through his limitations, and bring to a breakthrough in his field of research, and after him are named streets and various educational institutions in England.
