An issue of the “Hatzofeh” newspaper from the Friday morning in which Israel’s independence was announced (in the afternoon of that day), May 14, 1948. The title: “Tonight the Hebrew State will be established”, and later: “Great day, great this date in history Israel”.

The main article reads: “Today, ה’ אייר התש”ח The establishment of the Hebrew state will be announced and the independent Hebrew government will be established. One thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight years after the destruction of the the Temple, Israel’s independence will be re-established in the Land of Israel. After 27 years of occupation, the British mandate and with it foreign rule over the Land of Israel ended. The last practical symbol of foreign rule, the naval blockade on aliyah, will be lifted tonight at midnight”. and details about the expected ceremony of the declaration of independence which will be held in a “modest and short” manner, and will include opening remarks, the reading of the declaration and a proclamation for the enactment of laws and the signature of all the members of the People’s Council. As a mediator to be published It will include three sections: a) Authority for the Humane State Council and the Provisional Government to enact laws in the name of the State Basic Ordinance. b) The cancellation of the laws resulting from the white book. c) The existing laws remain until a new law declared. The article opens with the words: “Great today, great is this date in Israel’s history.”
