Full pencil box "VERA" made by Jos. Illfelder BLEISTIFT-FABRIK - A lead factory owned by the Jew Joseph Ilfelder. Germany, 1900s. Extremely rare, especially in its condition - a full box in perfect condition!

In the front of the box are two Star of David. On the back of the box in three different squares appear the advantages of "Vera" pencils - "clear and uniform line, fine writing, economical to use, etc.". On each pencil is engraved the name of the factory and the Star of David in gold letters.

The Berolzheimer und Illfelder pencil factory was established at 52/54 Schwabacher Street in 1854 in Pirt - Germany, by the merchants Daniel Brolzheimer and Leopold Ilfelder. During the 19th century it was a successful business with extensive exports of the company's pencils to many countries (in 1861 the company even established a branch in New York under the management of Leopold's son - Joseph). In 1876, Leopold's son Joseph arrived from America and took over the management of the company in Germany. He changed the name of the company to the name bearing his name: "Dampfbleistiftfabrik Jos. Illfelder" and began to produce the pencils "VERA" (c. 1900). During the period in which he managed the company, he greatly expanded his production to other production departments. After the death of Joseph - his brother, Max Ilfelder became the official owner of the company, and managed it until 1942 - following the narrowing of Jewish steps by the Nazi authorities, the building was sold in favor of a local department store, and the successful factory ended.

A box full of 12 pencils that have never been used. Box: 18x5x1 cm. Perfect condition.
