Five woodcuts by Yossi Stern (1923-1992) for the book "Derech Ein Ketz" - signed in pencil by the artist, dated: 1945, and numbered. The book "Derech Ein Ketz" is a translation from the German source, "Weg ohne Ende" by the author Gershon Stern, was published in Tel Aviv, 1947, and its plot deals with the expulsion of the Jews from Prague in 1745 - one of the first works Stern created as a student at Bezalel.
Yossi Stern (1923-1992), born in Hungary, immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1940. He worked in the Betar labor companies and in 1943 began studying at the New Bezalel. Through his work he was influenced by his great teacher Yaakov Steinhart. In 1943 he began his studies at the Bezalel. In 1946 he won the "Hermann Struck Prize" as an outstanding student. Known for paintings of figures and landscapes of the city of Jerusalem and the lives of the fighters in the Hebrew underground in Israel, the IDF and GDNA. Several awards were given to him for his work as an artist and journalist. These include the Struck Prize in 1946, the UNESCO Prize in 1967, the Nordau Prize in 1969 and the Herzl Prize in 1978, and he was awarded the "Jerusalem Medal" for special achievements in art in 1987.
