A photograph of the pile of shaving brushes of Jews who were taken by the Nazis upon their arrival at the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp before their execution. Inscribed on the back in handwriting: "Shaving-brushes Auschwitz Birkenau 1945".

The photograph shows only a small part of the personal belongings of the Jewish prisoners who were executed in Auschwitz. When the Jews arrived at the camp, the Nazis robbed them of all their possessions, suitcases, shaving brushes, combs, dinnerware, clothes, toothbrushes and glasses and more. Prisoners from the Commando-Canada unit were responsible for unloading the passengers from the train and separating them from their belongings, while assuring that the belongings would be left for them in the camp. And if that wasn't enough, in the evacuation of the bodies of those who perished after being killed in the gas chambers, prosthetic limbs, gold teeth and dental crowns were removed from them. The women's hair was cut off, and jewelry was removed from the bodies. When the camp was liberated, alongside the grim sight of the dead bodies, the Russians also encountered the piles of the Jews' belongings they left behind, who were sorted by the Nazis for sale.

Size: 18x13 cm. Good condition.
