UN COMMANDO DE DACHAU LANDSBERG SUR LECH par ALBERT FUCHS - Commando Dachau and Landsberg by Albert Fuchs - a rare report of a former prisoner given as part of the Nuremberg trials, in which he details his experiences in the Landsberg and Dachau camps. France, 1946 - Only edition.

Albert Fuchs was born on April 12, 1896, he was a professor of history at the University of Strasbourg since 1935. On April 5, 1944 he was arrested by the Gestapo on the charge of distorting German history in his lectures, he was taken to the Landsberg camp for a few weeks, and from there he was transferred to Dachau on June 18, 1944 along with about 6500 deportees and managed to survive the horrors of the camp, when of all those 6500 only he and seven other prisoners remained alive!. When he arrived in Dachau, he was given a prisoner number: 72581, and he immediately realized that the Nazis' goal was to humiliate the human spirit more than his body and make him morally inferior, and he immediately made a decision that he would never degrade morally, even if his body was tortured to death. In the following months, he was employed in forced labor and his body was getting thinner day by day, but it was his decision that stood him through all the difficult situations, to be of help to his friends, and to strengthen his spirit, until he was released on May 17, 1945, when the allied forces and the Red Army entered the camp. At the end of the report, Albert writes that after writing it he learned from a report in the Bavarian newspaper that Wagner (one of the camp commanders) was hanged together with 27 other Nazi criminals who were sentenced to death in May 1946.
