"This day is a good news day for Israel... The Talmud appears again in Ashkenaz" Shas - Munich - First printing of the Shas after the holocaust for the survivors of the camps - complete set - Munich-Heidelberg, 1948. "Published by the Association of Rabbis in the American Region of Ashkenaz".

At the end of World War II, there was a great shortage of holy books in the survivor camps, both due to the destruction of the books of European Jewry by the Nazis, and due to the displacement of the Jews from their place. Printing books for the survivors was the first task of the rescue committee. The first volumes of the Gmara to be printed were tractates of Kiddushin and Nedarim printed as early as 1946. In 1948 Va'ad Hahazalah printed the all 19-volume of the Sha's in complete edition. And so the publisher solemnly writes in the preface: "Baruch Shehecheyanu V'kiymanu V'higianu L'zman Hazeh - the printing of the Shas! After the terrible destruction, the days of doom and destruction that befell us, a time of trouble like it has never been since Israel became a nation ... Engraved in our memory that bitter day, the appearance of the order in the ghetto, from the evil regime and the Nazis to collect all books to one place in order to take them out and Burn them ... All the books of Israel were taken to work paper, to be despised or burned ... this day is a day of joy for Israel ... the Talmud appears again in Ashkenaz"

Each volume has two title pages. The first title page was specially designed to mark the event of the printing of the Sha's on the scorched soil of Germany, at the top is an illustration of a Jewish town and the inscription "From Slaving to salvation from darkness to a great light"; at the bottom of the title page is an illustration of barbed wire fences and a labor camp, and below the inscriptions: "Ashkenaz labor camp during the Nazis"; "כמעט כלוני בארץ ואני לא עזבתי פיקודיך" - "They almost destroyed me, and I did not leave your commandments" (Psalm 119).
