Cover made of wood and leather designed in the Asmara exile camp - 1946.

On the front, a pair of clasped hands released from their handcuffs, on the other side a map of the Land of Israel next to a map of the Asmara area, with the markings of 'jail', 'Closure Camp', 'Prison', 'Labor Camp'. And the caption: "On the way up to the kingdom of the house of David." Engraved dedication: "To Esther from Judah Adar 12, 1946 Asmara".

Between 1944 and 1948, some Irgun and Lehi members were arrested and deported in 12 deportations to detention camps in Africa. The detention camps where they were held were Symbol, near Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, Carthage in the Sudanese desert and Gilgil in Kenya, located north of Nairobi. There they created, among other things, souvenirs from their stay in the camp which expressed their aspirations. The exiles were returned to their country two months after the establishment of the State of Israel, in July 1948.

Size: 28x18 cm. Cover only. Good condition.
