The photo shows about 160 students from different nationalities who participated in the conference that took place in Cape Town.
The National Union of South African Students fought against racism, and in favor of liberalism. It was established in 1924 at Gray College, and was composed mainly of English-speaking students studying in South Africa. The first leader of the organization was Leo Marquard. The organization fought mainly against the racial segregation that was practiced in South African universities. The organization ceased to exist in 1991.
