Listy spod morwy : Sachsenhausen - Dachau - Letters under the mulberry tree: Sachsenhausen - Dachau, by the prisoner Morcinek Gustaw. Published by Biblioteka Bia ego Or a. Rome, 1946, part two. Polish.

"Here, man became a hunted animal, guided only by instinct. Anyone found with a book was punished by hanging on a pole or receiving 25 double lashes. The executions were carried out by SS men. None of them hid the fact that he enjoyed this position very much... Screams, then howls, sweat ran down the distorted faces, breathing stopped, and the "SS men" went around among the victims, punching the howlers in the face, pulling them by the legs, kicking them or beating them in the chest... After an hour of such torture the prisoners were brought down from their post. And most of the time they fell on the floor, unable to get up or stand. Then the "SS men" had a new game, they kicked and punched the condemned for so long that he had to crawl from the place of execution on all fours... Or two "green" torturers would grab the victim by the legs and immerse him in a barrel full of water. Here the effect was less tempting for them, because it consisted only of seeing the victim kicking his legs. It would not have moved them as much as the sight of a human being falling into the abyss...".

Trembling diary of a prisoner from the Dachau and Sachsenhausen camps who stayed in them throughout the years of the war, and survived. A daily description of the countless atrocities committed by the Nazis in the camp and the struggle for the survival of the prisoners until the day the camp was liberated. In the book, there are many passages that are difficult to read in which Gustav details the various ways of the severe abuse that the Nazis carried out on prisoners in an unrestrained manner, abuse that resulted in an unimaginable number of tortured and murdered. The author of the book was a famous writer before the war (see below) and this is evident in his book in the precision and quality of the descriptions, in the fascinating and direct manner in which the book was written. He made no "discount" for the Nazis, and described the most difficult scenes exactly as they happened.

Gustaw Morcinek [1891-1963] a well-known Polish writer. Considered one of the most important writers from Silesia. In the period between the wars, Morcinek published many articles in various Silesian newspapers. He wrote his most important books in the late 1920s and early 1930s and became the only prominent prose writer in the Polish language of Silesia in the interwar period. Gustaw returned to Poland shortly before the outbreak of World War II. He was arrested by the Gestapo on September 6, 1939, and initially imprisoned with Władysław Dvoráczek and the other people belonging to the Silesian Polish intellectuals. Gustaw spent the entire war in the Nazi concentration camps Skruchovich, Sachsenhausen and Dachau. The alleged reason given for his arrest was his "anti-German activity" before the war and the fact that he named a dog in one of his novels ("Wyrąbany chodnik") as "Bismarck". From his release until November 1946, Morcinek lived in France, Italy and Belgium and collaborated with Polish émigré journalists there. Morcinek resumed his writing and continued to concentrate on topics related to Silesia but expanded his scope to children's books and other topics.
