Der Todesring um Warschau 1939-1944 - "The Death Ring Around Warsaw 1939-1944" - An important in-depth study on the arbitrary executions carried out by the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto, by Righteous Among the Nations Władysław Bartoszewski. Published by Interpress-Verlag. Poland, 1969 - first edition. Dedicated copy by author to Dr. Martin Broszest (June 1969 upon book's publication). German.

A comprehensive in-depth research on the Jews and Poles (members of the Polish resistance) murdered by the Nazis in Warsaw 1939-1944. The author brings hundreds of names of the people murdered by the Nazis in Warsaw and also extensive details on the victims and murder circumstances - the accusations made by the Gestapo and the place where they killed. He relies on dozens of official sources, prison records, ongoing reports published in the ghetto in real-time, info from Police Criminal HQ basement on Ozdovsky Boulevard in the ghetto, many posters the Gestapo itself published naming those executed, Polish population execution lists, Nazi terror apparatus employee notebook, prisoner memoirs and more. Among other things, the book deals with Jewish deportations to death camps and how Nazis carried out the actions.

The book is accompanied by many photos of posters naming those executed (Poles and Jews), posters hung in the ghetto explicitly threatening death for any Jew found outside, harsh photos of corpses, lists of people sentenced to death periodically published by Gestapo in which they specified the reason for the punishment, harsh corpse photos, and more.

Author Władysław Bartoszewski [1922-2015] A Polish Righteous Among Nations who personally participated in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Politician, social activist, journalist, author after the war. Born and raised in Warsaw. In September 1939 at WWII outbreak, helped defend the city as a medic. From May 1940 worked at the Polish Red Cross' first public clinic in Warsaw. On September 19, 1940 captured in a Nazi abduction operation with 2,000 Poles and taken for forced labor to Auschwitz camp, arriving September 22 (tattooed there with the number 4427). Freed April 8, 1941 thanks to Polish Red Cross efforts. After his release, Bartoszewski joined the Polish Home Army resistance movement. He participated in the Warsaw Uprising and was a member of Żegota, a Polish underground organization that aided Jews during the Holocaust.
After the war he was twice imprisoned by the Soviet communist regime - first from 1946 to 1948 and then from 1949 to 1954, on false charges of espionage. He was released in 1955 and worked as a journalist. He later headed the Polish creators' organization from 1972 to 1982. Eventually, Bartoszewski became the Polish Ambassador to Austria from 1990 to 1995 and Polish Foreign Minister from 1995 to 2000. Between 1997 and 2001 he was a senator in the Polish Senate. From 2007 until his passing, he served as a minister in the Polish Prime Minister's office, responsible for Poland's relations with Israel and Germany within that role. From June 2001 until his passing, he chaired an organization dedicated to commemorating past victims of wars and executions. Additionally, he was the chairman of the Auschwitz World Council. Bartoszewski was considered a true friend of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. On May 4, 2015, on the day of his burial in Warsaw, the Knesset marked his passing with remarks in a plenary session by Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein in the presence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Polish Ambassador Jacek Chodorowicz.
