Deutsches Reich Kennkarte - German identification card of the Jew Markus Frenkel with the additional name "Israel", bearing the identifying Jewish mark - the letter J imprinted twice, with two fingerprints of Frenkel. Vienna, October 31, 1939. Ink stamp of the Reich with swastika, signature and stamp of the Gestapo commander in Vienna.

According to the order on identity documents from July 22, 1938, Jews were required to replace their existing identity documents with new ones marked with the letter "J" and the additional name "Israel" for males or "Sarah" for females. The regulation also obligated Jewish children to be equipped with identity documents bearing the Jewish identifying mark, and Jews were forced to pay "administrative fees" for issuing the documents. The documents were marked with a noticeable 5 cm long J letter. The first Jewish identity documents issued in the "Old Reich" started in January 1939. Local police authorities were responsible for receiving applications and passport offices were responsible for issuing them. Identity documents were issued in duplicates; one copy was given to the holder and an additional copy remained with the authorities.

[4] pages, 15 cm. Thin fabric. Good condition.
