Antisemitic railway ticket distributed at train stations in Germany in the 1930s with travel details “one way to Jerusalem”.
Printed on the ticket: “Freifahrkarte nach Jerusalem – gültig ab jeder Deutschen Station nicht übertragbar hin und nicht wieder zurük” – “Free ticket to Jerusalem, valid from any German train station, not transferable, one way without return, fourth class” and serial number 19287. German.
Tickets of this type were created by Nazi propagandists and distributed by antisemites at train stations in Germany in order to mark Jews as unwanted. Especially famous is the incident regarding the Jewish members of the sports club of Frankfurt, who after Hitler came to power in late April 1933, letters were sent to all club members informing them that they would no longer be able to continue participating in sports club events because they were Jewish, the letters were signed by vice president of the club Karl Muller, and to each letter sent was attached a one-way railway ticket to Jerusalem, like the ticket before us. (See article about Jeno Konard in the magazine Der Club 2007)
A similar ticket appears at the permanent exhibition of the Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum in Jerusalem.
