Chansons Joyuses De Piron Colle Gallet Avec un Calendrier Paris - "Joyful Songs by Piron, Colle, Gallet and others, With a Paris Calendar" A miniature poetry book [6 cm!], published by chez Froullé & Rousseau - Paris 1812. French. Original leather binding, with an engraving of the three writers opposite the title page.

A collection of 94 poems by various French writers. The poems are mostly anonymous, but some authors include Alexis Piron, Charles Collé, and Pierre Gallet. The poems are arranged alphabetically by title, each with a short commentary. The poems deal with relations between the lower class and French nobility, and between men and women, and more. Alexis Piron (1689-1773), Charles Collé (1709-1783), and Pierre Gallet (1698-1757), popular playwrights and song authors, were all members of the famous Société du Caveau. The song collection was published at a time when censorship was still relatively strict in France, and so it was considered somewhat scandalous. The songbook was a commercial success, followed by several editions being published. It was also translated into other languages, including English and German. The collection is considered one of the important documents of early 19th century French popular culture.

239 pages, 6X5 cm. Wear on spine. Condition Moderate - Good.
