Yesodei HaDa'at Book by Rabbi Moshe Rosenstain, Warsaw 1935 - First Edition. Dedication and signature on the title page in the handwriting of the author Mashgiach of Lomza Yeshiva Rabbi Moshe Rosenstain. 'For eternal memory I am sending our dear book to his honor, my dear and beloved friend, the distinguished and intelligent young man, Mr. Mordechai Dalawitz, my friend and beloved forever, Moshe Rosenstain (Mashgiach at the Yeshiva HaKedosha in Lomza)."

His book "Yesodei HaDa'at" is one of the fundamental books of the Musar movement, "Dedicated to the young people of our nation who study in the holy Yeshivas to straighten their opinions and ways of life." At the publication of the book, a scandal arose after in a certain section of the book it seems that Rabbi Rosenstein disagreed with Rambam's words in the Hilchot Yesodei HaTorah in which the Rambam wrote that Bnei Isarel believed in Moses not by virtue of the signs he made, but by virtue of the status of Mount Sinai alone. In the next edition of the book, the Mashgiach was quick to correct the remarks and clarified that in fact he intended only to interpret Maimonides' true intention. In the copy before us, there are two erasures of four words in the section dealing with the above-mentioned Rambam's words on page 20, it is possible that the erasures were made by Rabbi Moshe Rosenstain himself.

The Gaon Rabbi Moshe Rosenstain [1881-1941] in his youth studied at the Telshe Yeshiva at a time when the Musar movement was not yet part of the yeshiva's teaching arrangements. When he met the holy genius Rabbi Yeruchom of Mir, who was studying at the Kelm Yeshiva at the time, he persuaded him to come and study there. It was there that Rabbi Moses began his journey in the study of Musar. Later he studied at the Kollel Ha'Avrechim of the Radin Yeshiva, headed by the Chofetz Chaim. In 1912, he was appointed Mashgiach of the Lomza Yeshiva, where he worked until the end of his life. During his tenure as a supervisor, the yeshiva flourished and grew. Rabbi Moshe Rosenstain was known for his asceticism and strict observance of Jewish law, and he used to spend almost all his weekdays in the yeshiva, studying and teaching Torah. He would only leave the yeshiva to return to his home for the Shabbat meals. Many of the students in Lomza came from Poland and were from Hasidic homes. At first it was difficult for them to adapt to the ways of Musar, but many of them "connected to him with great love and emotional admiration, " as one of his students testified, and even absorbed his influence.
