Zola dans la Mé...lasse..! - An anti-Dreyfus moving cartoon in which a soldier is seen pushing the figure of Emil Zola into a distilling barrel (Vidange). The soldier's hand can be moved by a hidden mechanism at the back, and when it is lifted, the figure of Emil Zola is revealed, and the inscription "Zola dans La Mé… Lasse ..!" Which means: "Zola is in trouble." Signed in print: P. Dous Y'Nell, Hayard Léon Publishing. Paris, around 1898.

The cartoon was published after Zola was convicted of libel for his article "J'Accuse" - I Blame' in favor of Alfred Dreyfus, and was forced to flee to England from the terror of French rule.

17X12 cm. Tear left in the middle, restored by pasting paper on the back. Stains. Good - moderate condition.
