A large photograph showing a Jew who collapsed (starved to death?) Lying on the street on the Tramlines in the Warsaw ghetto, and passers-by gathered around him. Warsaw, c. 1941.

This is how Haim Kaplan describes in his diary 'The Warsaw Ghetto Diary' the fate of those who starved to death in the Warsaw ghetto: "Those who died of starvation or plague are the majority! Among them were people gathered from the ghetto streets, died in hospital or starved to death in an attic. These bodies are laid into a mass grave in the same condition in which they were collected: naked and unwashed. Dozens upon dozens of such bodies are collected every day in the cemetery stables, waiting to be buried at sunrise ... Is this the man and this is his end? ... ".
