Five photos from a farewell party held in honor of the immigrants from the Bergen - Belsen DP camp. July 1946.
Behind those photographed can be seen the Israeli flag, a picture of Haim Nachman Bialik, and the caption: "A people without language as a body without a soul."
The camp operated from the summer of 1945 until September 1950. For a time it was the largest Jewish DP camp in Germany, and the only one in the British-occupied area. In August 1946, more than 11,000 Jews stayed in the DP camp.
Provenance: Jeremiah Rimon Collection. (The association of the photographs with those leaving Bergen-Belsen was done by Yeri himself, according to the context in which they were found)
Same size: 10x7 cm. Good condition.
