Socialism in Brown - by Albert Hauser, published by Das Licht - an important publication in Germany at the end of the war exposing what Nazi rule brought upon Germany itself and the German people, pointing an accusing finger at the Nazi leadership and exposing their crimes. Includes anti-Nazi caricatures. Germany, 1947. German.

In the introduction, the author writes that the time has come to repent. and that it is forbidden to obscure or deny the fact that the 12 years of Nazi rule ended in the greatest disaster for Germany - "The German name is covered in shame of the bestial murders of Dachau and Buchenwald, and the death ovens of Majdanek and Buchenwald... German fascist imperialism knew only to kill, kill, kill!". He writes that it must be acknowledged that "the Germans brought this ruin and horror upon the world and our people" and adds: "We who remain are asked to show the greatest courage that can be asked of us, the courage to face the truth".
The book was written to "ruthlessly" expose the background of Nazi' politics, how the Nazi regime harnessed the German economy to carry out the worst atrocities in history. It shows how as early as 1932, Hitler met with heads of large companies in Germany, and with bank managers, to make clear to them the "new rules". At that meeting, called the "Düsseldorf Conference", Hitler secured the support of German industry for his election as Chancellor, and promised suitable profits in return, through plundering the masses and concentrating production in their hands. The cover illustration shows Hitler supported financially by a German tycoon. It explains the ruse of Hitler's slogan "eliminating unemployment" that won over the German masses, when in fact instead of unemployed people, Germany received "murdered" people. "What was called Hitler's job creation simultaneously introduced forced labor and wage reduction", he writes. It also exposes the shady pasts of Hitler, Goebbels, Göring, Streicher and others from their youth before joining the Nazi party, and shows how all of Hitler's promises for the benefit of the German people were broken one by one, and in fact intended for the benefit of Nazi party members themselves.

In the years after the war most German writers were engaged in denial, trying to minimize the crimes of Nazi Germany as much as possible, minimizing the numbers murdered, and obscuring the horrors committed in the death camps. Before us is a courageous publication in post-Holocaust Germany pointing an accusing finger inward.
