The involvement of students in community life in the years 1883 - 1884 was expressed in the founding of the "Literary-Musical Association", the "Scientific Association" and the "Academic Association for Jewish History and Literature" . Within this association, the Zionist students' organization "HaHaver" operated. "Saffa Berura" was established as a department for learning Hebrew. Members of the academic association organized in the 1880s in the "Hovevei Zion" movement and in 1900 joined the branch of the Histadrut HaZionist. As early as the last quarter of the 19th century, the Jews of Tartu donated every year to the foundations of Eretz Israel.

Attached is a rare book of songs published by the association: 'Lider Buch' which was published to mark the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the association: 1884-1924, edited by M. S.
