The Proclamation reads:
"We, on behalf of Colonel Alexandru, the mayor of the city... Article 1: From the date of this order, all Jews in this city are prohibited from shopping for any type of food and general goods in squares, streets, and city checkpoints until 9am. Jews are only allowed to shop between 9 and 10am. Article 2: Police and municipal bodies are responsible for enforcing this decision. This was determined in our office today, December 11, 1941. Mayor Colonel Alexandru Ioan, Secretary Nicu Ionescu, December 11, 1941."
The proclamation before us was only the beginning of the Holocaust of the Jews of Pitești. The policy of Romanianization, which began before World War II, intensified with the rise to power of Ion Antonescu and the establishment of the National-Legionary State. This regime aimed to expel the Jews from Romania, without specifying the means, while seizing their property. During World War II, on September 12, 1941, a yellow badge was imposed on 350 Jews in the city of Pitești. As part of the Romanian plan for ethnic cleansing of the provinces, tens of thousands of Jews were killed by Romanian death squads and units of Romanian and German armies during the first months of the war.
