Ruth - Reuben Rubin [1893-1974]. Signed and numbered lithograph. From Rubin's early works.

This lithograph was created by Rubin in only 9 copies. The copy before us is his number 1. Signed in pencil in Hebrew and English.

The work before us is from Rubin's first period in the Land of Israel (Compare for example his monumental work 'The flute' made in 1938), at a time when Rubin used to paint in a proud and personal Eretz israeli style - clean and direct. Rubin described that period: "In the Land of Israel the sun shone, there was a sea, there were pioneers ... a new land and a new life grew around me. I felt how the creative vigor wavered and dripped inside me too ... the world around me became clear and pure, life was primeval ... I did not feel distressed ... I painted as easily as a bird singer - effortlessly with joy. In these years 1923-1924, I was able to live and express myself in a real way" ('Reuven', by Reuven Rubin, published by the American Society of Israel, p. 145) In later years the material expression in his paintings diminished, and the subjects became more and more spiritual, shrouded in a kind of magical smoke or lighted mist.

65x46 cm. Wood and glass frame: 60x78 cm. Very good condition.
