BeyrouthTemple Maguen Abraham' An early [undivided back] postcard of the interior of the 'Magen Abraham' Synagogue in Beirut, early 20th century.

The Magen Avraham Synagogue (Arabic: كنيس ماغين أبراهام) in the Wadi Abu Jamil district of central Beirut is the oldest synagogue in Lebanon. The synagogue was named after Abraham Sasson of Calcutta who contributed to its construction. The interior design of the synagogue was done by Joseph Farhi. In the 1940s, the Zionist movement used the synagogue as a transit station for illegal immigrants. In 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon in the "Shlom HaGalilee Operation" that developed into the First Lebanon War. That summer an Israeli plane bombing Beirut bombed the synagogue and destroyed its roof. The nearby beit midrash was demolished as well as a number of buildings that had previously belonged to the city's Jews.

Not sent by mail, very good condition.
