63 Postcards - Views from Eretz Israel by Friedrich vester [fr. vester - American Colony], early 20th century.

Most of the postcards show important buildings and sites in Old Jerusalem, some with typical Jerusalem and the surrounding area in the early 20th century. Many of the postcards published by vester have become rare over the years. We have an impressive representation of rare postcards in this important series.

Vester Swiss Lutheran Was born in Jerusalem in 1869. He married Bertha Spafford, the daughter of the founders of the American Colony, and became a leading photographer in the American Colony as he accompanied the visit of the German Kaiser William II in 1898 to first-rate historical photographs. He was in fact at the head of the photographic branch of the American Colony. His photographs were real, and there were almost no staged scenes like the ones before him. The technical quality of the photographs, and the angles of the photograph were meticulously made uncompromising. Many of the postcards in the series he published are the initial visual documentation of those places, which appeared over the years in dozens of different editions according to the source in this series.

8 mailed, 26 undivided back. Very fine condition.
