PAIN - bread - "Not by the sweat of his brow does the Jew earn his bread" - an antisemitic card in the form of bread coupons - advertisement for the antisemitic exhibition "The Jew and France". Paris, 1941.

Antisemitic manifest in the form of a bread ration ticket. In the center of the ticket was written the antisemitic slogan in red: "Bread. Not by the sweat of his brow does the Jew earn his bread. He steals it through speculation and trade in the work of others" . Below in red were details about the antisemitic exhibition "The Jew and France": "Le Juif et la France" au palais Berlitz Septembre - Octobre - "The Jew and France in Berlitz Palace September - October." On the back of the ticket is written: "To truly know the Jew and resolve the Jewish question on which the fate of France depends. Join the Friends of the Institute for the Study of the Jewish Question at 21 rue La Boetie Paris and to supplement your documentation visit and invite your friends to visit "The Jew and France" exhibition at the Palais Berlitz in Paris from 31 September - October. Everyone is working to get rid of the Jews". On the sides of the ticket is written: "This ticket is valid until the Jews' full departure". At the top front appears a red round stamp of "The Institute for the Study of the Jewish Question".

The anti-Semitic exhibition 'The Jew and France' took place between September 5, 1941 and January 15, 1942 at the Palais Berlitz located in the 2nd quarter of Paris, near the Opera House. The event was funded and organized by the Institute for the Study of the Jewish Question (IEQJ Institut) established in May 1941 by the German Propaganda Department (Propagandastaffel) under the direct orders of the Nazi occupier. The Nazis' goal was to influence the French people, that their true enemy was the 'Jew', he and no other was responsible for all of France's ills. The exhibition was presented as an educational initiative inspired by the work of Professor of Anthropology Georges Montandon 'How to Identify the Jew' published in November 1940, and it was intended "to help the French identify the Jew according to his physical characteristics" and demonstrate "the general corrupt grip they have against the state". For this purpose, illustrations, photographs, and creative works in an antisemitic spirit were brought to the exhibition to present the dangerous Jew to the French people in the guise of 'science'. The exhibition featured stereotypical portraits of Jews with long noses, dirty hair, scheming Jews, etc. alongside antisemitic captions (including portraits of prominent Jews in French public life such as Wolf Lewitan, radio journalist Jean-Michel Grunebaum, journalist Pierre Lazaréf, playwright Henri Bernstein, producer Bernard Nathan, politician Léon Blum, and others), all with the aim of convincing the public of the danger Jews pose to France in different fields: the army, cinema, economy, and literature. The shocking display over the entrance to the exhibition was a giant sculpture of a hand "The Big Hand" of the Jew threatening France. And afterwards a sculpture of the Jew embracing the world in his arms, and above it a sculpture smashing him showing a woman holding her son representing the 'new France' without Jews.

Antisemitic cards full of venom and hatred for Jews such as the one before us were distributed throughout France as "invitations" for the exhibition.

16x11 cm. Very good condition.
